During our last semester (January 28 to June 26, 2008), clubs have been organized as follows:
1st period – from the week of February 11 through the week of March 10
2nd period - from the week of March 24 through the week of April 21
3rd period – from the week of May 5th through the week of June 9
CHESS CLUB

SCHEDULE:
1) Mondays: 3-4 p.m. For intermediate players. Ages 9-13.
2) Tuesdays: 3-4 p.m. For beginners. Ages: 6-8
3) Thursdays: 3-4 p.m. For beginners. Ages: 14-18.
ABOUT THE LESSONS: lessons are in English unless all the students prefer Spanish and all parents agree. There will be a small 10 min recess.
MATERIALS: 1 middle size, plastic (preferable) chess set.
NOTE: The teacher will provide a CD with chess programs and a copy of the book "Bilingual Chess Course for Beginners" written by himself to all the new students. This material is completely free of charge.

SCHEDULE: Classes available on Fridays from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. for students ages 8 to 12.
ABOUT THE LESSONS: The club will focus on the creation of mythological animals and figures based on each child’s own imagination.
MATERIALS: All materials are included. Students should bring their own apron.
TALLER DE ARTE Y BELLAS ARTES

SCHEDULE:
1) Wednesdays: 1:00-2:45 p.m. For all ages.
2) Fridays: 1:00-2:30 pm for Kinder and Prep & from 3:00-4:30 for ages 9 and up.
ABOUT THE LESSONS: The club teaches basics on classical painting and anatomic drawing. Students work in the same manner an adult painter would. They start with a preliminary sketch, learning about proportions and construction. Students paint on an easel with a palette, learning to mix colors. Depending on the progress of each student, principles of volume, perspective, shadowing, and anatomy are taught. For the most part, children work with non toxic guash (tempera) which has a similar consistency as oils water colors. All of the students work is showed once a month on the walls surrounding the main office.

BALLET CLUB

SCHEDULE:
1) Tuesdays: 1:15 – 2:00 p.m for Kinder and Prep & from 3:00-4:00 for 4th - 6th grade students.
2) Wednesdays: 12:45-1:45 for 1st- 3rd grade students.
ABOUT THE LESSONS: The techniques offered are Pre-Ballet, Ballet, Tap, Acrobatics, Modern Dance, Choreography and Corporal Expression. The techniques (according to age and level) complement each other, giving each student methods to strengthen the demands that Dance requires, which can be from knowing how to count, listening and interpreting music, develop an excellent physical condition and at the same time learn to control your body, better your posture, move in space, move gracefully, elegance, etc.
The ballet classes tries to awaken the students in a natural way, the artistic sensibility through movement based on the techniques given. The students receive theoretic and practical training within the technical and creative language of dance, encouraging effort and discipline and developing physical-motor skills (coordination, flexibility, agility, strength, resistance, muscle tone, etc) always in an environment that encourages creativity, freedom of expression, rhythm, musicality improvisation, etc.
MATERIALS: Each students needs to buy their own ballet uniform.
KNITTING CLUB

SCHEDULE: Tuesdays from 3:00-4:00 for students from 1st grade and up.
ABOUT THE LESSONS: Learn to knit headbands, pillows, bags, hats and many other easy projects. Knitting improves coordination and fine-motor skills and encourages concentration and visual-spatial thinking. Plus, it is a fun way to make beautiful useful items for yourself or to give as gifts to your friends.
During the first period you will learn the basic stitches, how to cast on and to make a simple project. In the second period you will learn how to use multiple colors and you will start a project to work on throughout the last two sessions.
MATERIALS: All materials (needle and yarn) are included.
YOGA

SCHEDULE: Thursdays from 3:00-4:30 for High School students and parents.
ABOUT THE LESSONS: Hatha Yoga, appropriate for beginning and intermediate practitioners of yoga. Classes integrate pranayama (yogic breathing) and asana (postures) linked through vinyasa (flow) and gleaned from
the yogic styles of:
• Iyengar - pricise body alignment
• Anusara - spiritual and meditative aspects
• Vinni - restorative
• Ashtanga - dynamic
Yoga practice builds strength, stamina, balance and creates deep relaxation for the mind and body.
MATERIALS: Wear comfortable exercise clothing and bring a yoga mat.
MUSIC

SCHEDULE: Monday to Friday
ABOUT THE LESSON: The objective of the music club is to work on group sharing, personal development, musical abilities that influence the cognitive aspects such as listening skills, problem solving, time management, etc.
Students will have the opportunity to choose one of the following instruments: flute, guitar, percussion, piano, marimba, recorder, clarinet, saxophone, base and electrical guitar. The workshops will be given during the early morning (before classes start), at midday (after lunch) and afternoons (after classes).
It is important that each student brings his own instrument during the first month of having started the club. Students participating in the clubs will be part of school activities and presentations.
MATERIALS:Each student should bring his or her own musical instrument.
